If you think about it, the church has taken a very reactive approach to marriage. We offer marriage counseling when differences arise, books to help you through disagreements, and divorce-care small groups if your marriage has ever crashed into the wall. But what if the church took a more proactive approach to marriage and offered you and your spouse opportunities to grow close together, have fun together, and even enjoy marriage together before you ever got close to crashing into the wall?

Big Night Out events are powerful, one night, 2-hour events for married people, no matter where they are in their marriages or their faith. Whether you’re a newlywed, a married couple with young children, a married couple with teenagers, or a married couple with grand-kids, we want you and your spouse to attend our next Big Night Out event on May 20th from 5-7pm in the Worship Center.

Tickets are only $10 per couple and can be purchased from either Jason or Nathan on Sunday, or from the church office during the week. We’ll feed you, entertain you, and give you some tools and resources for you and your spouse to start having fun together again. If you have children that require a babysitter, we will even reimburse your childcare expenses for the two hours that you’re at church. We want nothing to keep you from coming to our Big Night Out.

We want you to plan for some serious fun and some great resources to reclaim the fun in your marriage.

When: May 20th, 2012
Time: 5-7pm
Where: Worship Center, MCC
Who: All married couples no matter your age
Why: Because marriage is supposed to be great!

Our “Awaken” service, at 9:00 AM, is a blended service that is bright and energetic. This service brings traditional, southern gospel, and contemporary together with wonderful harmonies and a full band sound.

Why two different styles of worship?
There are happy and comfortable assumptions that many of us make as we live our lives. We assume that everyone celebrates Christmas the same way we do. We tend to feel the same way about birthdays. We assume that, at least most people go to the same grocery stores. We might even catch ourselves staring at someone coming from a competitor’s store and wonder, “What’s wrong with them?”

With a little pondering we can draw more realistic conclusions. Most of us have selective memories of growing up through school and community. We tend to bury any experiences that made us feel different from our peers. But the reality is, we are different, even when we are raised in similar surroundings. We try to accommodate what the majority gravitates to for the sake of acceptance.

The church has become a place of comfort and security in America; and rightly so. In becoming comfortable we have become predictable and maybe a little lazy. What worked for my parents and grandparents is good enough for me. After all, I’m comfortable. The people sitting next to me seem comfortable too. What’s the problem?

Maybe that’s the key. We don’t have a problem – We have an opportunity!

There are those who seem to think that we have plenty of time in this world. With this abundance of time they tend to assume that anybody who WANTS “church” can shuffle around until they FIND a church that does “church” the way they want. The reality, as I understand it, is that we don’t have unlimited time remaining on this earth. Knowing this give a sense of urgency that presses me to ask, “What can we do to invite, include and embrace more people into the Kingdom of God?”

Simply duplicating what we already offer is not a bad idea, but we, as leadership, asked ourselves, “Is this the best we can do?” We discussed the diversity of our culture and the fluid society that surrounds even a small town like Markle, Indiana.

If we simply offer more of what we already have (in style of worship), we believe we could attract more people who worship in this manner. Not an entirely bad idea, right? But, what if we varied our style to reach out to another element of our communities; to offer a style with a different appeal that still brings people to the cross of Christ? If we truly believe that Christ’s return is eminent and that there is an urgency to bring more and more people into the loving embrace of Jesus Christ, why would we not, if capable, use diversity in worship to attract and include more into the body of Christ?

We are blessed with talented people who are willing to give their personal time to practice and prepare worship services that are musically beautiful and spiritually compelling; their commitment to quality worship for the Lord is beyond question.

Our “Awaken” service, at 9:00 AM, is a blended service that is bright and energetic. This service brings traditional, southern gospel, and contemporary together with wonderful harmonies and a full band sound.

Our “Encounter” service, at 10:30 AM, is fully contemporary and casual. With a “come as you are” atmosphere and a driving beat, “Encounter” offers something new to our community and your friends.

We are excited about both of our worship styles. They are quality and they both bring us to the Throne of God for meaningful worship. Offering this format, we believe, is a strong and positive step for us and our community!
